ABSTRACT

The recent advances of light and photonic technology allowed the development of powerful optical and spectroscopic tools, that revealed helpful in the domain of the study, conservation, restoration, and presentation of artworks. The session aims at summarizing representative contributions that can give an insight on innovative research results on the application of light-based techniques in analysis, diagnostics and conservation of historical-artistic and museum cultural heritage. Photon probes covering different regions of the electromagnetic spectrum, from X-rays, through the ultraviolet, visible, infrared, to the radiowaves will be considered, each of them furnishing different chemical-physical information as a consequence of the different interaction mechanism with the investigated artefacts.

TOPICS

Topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Spectroscopy (XRF, Raman, FTIR….)
  • Microscopy, Interferometry, Imaging
  • Laser ablation methods
  • Synchrotron radiation-based techniques
  • Photogrammetry
  • Digital photogrammetric survey
