Paolo Castellini received the PhD degree in 1996 at University of Padova, Italy.
In 1997, he joined the Mechanical Department of Ancona, as a researcher and in 2011 become Associate Professor at the Department of Industrial Engineering and Mathematical Sciences at the Polytechnic University of Marche, where he teaches Mechanical and Thermal Measurements and Testing. Prof. Paolo Castellini has more than 24 years activity in the development and application of instrumentation for mechanical measurements in dynamic analysis and vibro-acoustic. He is part of the executive committee of the "International Conference on Vibration Measurements by Laser Techniques: Advances and Applications", in Ancona, which is organised every two years. Paolo Castellini was active in several EU funded project. He was the coordinator of a CleanSky EU project and he is the coordinator of a European Industrial Doctorate. His research interests are related to non-contact mechanical measurement techniques, mainly based on laser and microphone arrays. He is author of about hundred papers in International reviews and conferences.

Degree in Mechanical Engineering and PhD in Structural Dynamics obtained on June 2001 at Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine of London (United Kingdom) under the supervision of Professor D.J. Ewins head of the Dynamics Section in the Mechanical Engineering Department. The research work has been focused on the development of an innovative technique for vibration measurements by exploiting laser Doppler vibrometry as a full-field method.
In July 2001 she became Research Assistant at the University Polytechnics of Marche in the Mechanical Engineering Department. In March 2010 she became researcher at the Università degli Studi e-Campus in the Engineering Faculty and since May 2014 she is Associate Professor. She teaches the courses of “Mechanical and Thermal Measurement”, “Measurement Systems for Quality Control” and “Experimental Methods for Structural Dynamics”.
Her scientific activity is in the field of mechanical and thermal measurement systems, mechanical vibrations and structural dynamics (Experimental Modal Analysis), numerical and experimental vibro-acoustics methods (Near-Field-Acoustical-Holography, Beamforming, BEM, IBEM) and diagnostics by means of non-invasive measurement systems (Laser Doppler vibrometry).
She participated to the preparation and coordination and she performed research activity on the following project financed by the Europeam Commision:

- CREDO (“Cabin Noise Reduction by Experimental and Numerical Design Optimisation”, VI EU Framework)
- COOLCOVERINGS (Development of a novel and cost-effective range of nanotech improved coatings to substantially improve NIR (Near Infrared Reflective) properties of the building envelope)
Her research topics are focused on the field of mechanical and thermal measurement and specifically she work on the following subjects:
- development and application of non-contact measurement techniques for structural dynamics, modal analysis and artworks diagnostics,
- development of innovative solutions for vibration measurements by Laser Doppler Vibrometry,
- development and application of innovative method for the description of acoustic fields (Acoustic holography, beamforming, BEM, IBEM, Selective Intensity)
- ageing testing procedures design for the evaluation of tiles and paints reflectivity performances and endurance in dependence to weathering (UV radiation, temperature and humidity) and soiling. 

 

Abstract

This session is dedicated to the presentation of the most recent advances of full-field and non-invasive measurement techniques for cultural heritage monitoring. The application domains are manifold: from artworks damage detection for preventive conservation to risk assessment of physical damage of heritage objects vulnerable to climate fluctuations, seismic events and atmospheric agents.

 A broad range of experimental methods is included in full-field techniques:
- Vision-based techniques
- Active and passive Infra-Red thermography
- Multi-wavelength imaging
- Coherent speckle techniques (Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry, Shearography)
- Scanning Laser Doppler Vibrometry
- Ultrasonic imaging
- Digital Image Correlation
- Laser scanner
